Solab - Shift

12"--->Electronic, Minimal
Seventh Sign Recordings (under construction)

Released: November 2005

Tracklisting:
a1 - shift (sample here)
a2 - shift (alex smoke rmx) (sample here)
b1 - clocks
(sample here)
b2 - time
(sample here)
Solab is the new project of these two guys from Glasgow (Ross McMillan and Graham Wilson). Having a long term love affair with Detroit techno and having a healthy music scene with a new and fresh partnership, comes one release doing a source of difference that at the same time gains his roots on the smooth classic techno influenced by Basic Channel.
Its a record plenty of details that spices up the seething patterns. Smooth machine beats that will definitely heat up a dancefloor under an groovy atack and needing some peace to transmit the more emotional sounds that evolves for an misterious music if as following a secret plan.
A word for the remix of alex smoke-Great! Alex Smoke is here on remix duties and turns the main track ''Shift'' into a rolling minimal techno monster! Nicelly rattling, but still twinkle-toed groove, just great for a cultivated rampage on the frequency spectrum..
and... It's unknowed... (maybe a landing of parachute in the minimal land) ;->

Audio Werner - Trx

12" -----» Minimal Tech House
Trapez ltd 039

a1 - Schickago (7:52) (sample here)
b1 - Wash The Dishes (8:24) (sample here)

A
udio werner brings us his second release on trapez in their 39th limited edition... after the great lp "Just Dar It" - with it's fresh ibiza flavours - and the previous "Zwrtshak drive" - their greatest release - Trx brings us a lot of retro minimal always with it's groovy elements.
Schickago
is a dancefloor killer full of energy reminding us the chicago scene & spirit. Wash the Dishes is a different track - detroit style, deep & funky - moving away a bit of his general productions. Flying bass, funky minimal tech and positive vibrations it's what you can count on in this good 12".

Swat Squad and Alecs Marta - Marciano Homeless

12" --->Techno, Tech House, Minimal
Treibstoff 056
Released: 2005-09-05

Tracklisting:

a - Marciano Homeless (6:58)
b - Nomad (6:19)

Live and straight out of the deepest inside of the tech-minds comes this release made by Swat Squad and Alecs Marta. Two tracks and definitely the best work in their young and promising producer career so far. Treibstoff's talent scouts may be really proud of themselves with this aquisition. After some phat releases on Trapez (Cologne based Label run by Triple R [aka Riley Reinhold] and Jacqueline Klein. with the parent label Traum Schallplatten ) and remixes for Frankie Etc., Swat Squad are now chasing their cold pressed, murderous grooves with a solid construction full of tiny sounds, filling the cadence up on to an even higher level and moreover, they get it up to such a speed that you might become a bit nervous about the drive. Then you feel the spastic sounds coming like the serpentines in a train on rails. While the games between hi's and mid's are growing to what seems very filled sound, the beat is constantly marching straight into a kind of dance nirvana. This sound rocks, moreover, it is dense and touched for a dancefloor.

A little Minimalicious ;)

Alex Under aún es de españa?

After a small search in web, I found this small sample of the potentialities that the still young alex under I'ts capable to show, and how I has a great edge of progression based in a series of productions that for itself already mark the ways and the paths of the future sounds..
In this liveset live@ Urban, napoli, I question if he don't is an trully italian, cause the expression and the sensibility he delivers to this performance makes who listens it believe he is comfortable in that space and from there is the reason for the title at the beginning: Alex Under aún es de España? (Alex Under still is from spain?)
Shows the comfort that the ones that really can produce and take a dancefloor to the limit are touched by some kind of energy that goes beyond the normal patterns of the simply mortal people.

Someone Else - Fresh Air

12" ---» Minimal Tech House
nummer 013

a1
- Fresh Air 1 (8:08) (sample here)
b1 - Fresh Air 2 (8:23) (sample here)

After sean's successful remix for nummer 012 "naxos" (someone else's beaver mix), the co-founder of philadelphia's foundsound, unfoundsound and tuning spork record labels returns on nummer with "fresh air". brace yourself for two minimal and pumpin' monster tracks that are 100% dancefloor killers! each tune is heavy with choppy samples of talk radio, mind-numbing reverbs, butt-shaking basslines and snappy percussion. mmmmm...can you taste it? Hemman and Kaden - Vaganza EP

12" ---> Techno, Minimal, Tech house
Freude am Tanzen Recordings

-a - Vaganza
-b1 - Tramway
-b2 - People

This release from february of 2005 reflects how these artists (Marek Hemman & Mathias Kaden) complement their work in productions marked by the excelence patented in their final products and how a partnership can reveal new paths for the same ways. They're growing since the release from 2003, Guten Tag EP, showing a great attention to the details and always polishing those teeny imperfections, that shows the concern in doing better developments release after release.
Speeking for myself, this Ep is the conclusion of a work and hopefully with more to come tracking the same path..
Vaganza starts calm, peaceful, making subtile variations and always adding good vibes that complement the line that is beeing followed by bass. haves great unexpected changes, without strain much the rope, and this is a thing that some producers don't pay attention, because if you give a lot of variations they're gonna, sooner or later, to finish for spending the music and limitate the evolution that it could achieve.
It's delightfull listen this music day by day having the surprise of keeping your mind and senses connected/disconnected to it..

A great listening!

Argy - Sub But Still Nutty

12" ---»» Techno, Minimal
raum...musik 051

a1 - Evaquate (6:34)
b1 - Stravoma (5:53)
b2 - A Rhino in a Glass Shop (5:56)

Argyris Theofilis (Argy) is a 20 year old greek producer; his second production is a smashing example of what minimal groovy techno is! After the great hit that was love dose, his first release, Sub But Still Nuty brings us disturbed arguments well linned up with a rythmatic beat always gathering a great bass line. Evaquate is the first track of the album, where the paranoia starts, the lines of music making start to develop and where you gain the feeling that this is not an ordinary album! Stravoma is a 6:00 Am track, pure minimal underground perfect to be part of tracklists of the best djs. A Rhino in a Glass Shop like the name shows is a complete disturbant track, following paths of producers like ricardo villalobos, luciano or plastikman with a dry bassy beat always developing till you start to flip out and imagine that the rhino is really in the glass shop. An overdosed release that you can't miss!

Fairmont - Gazebo / Gazelle

12" ---» Minimal Tech house, downtempo, ambient
Border Community 09

a1 - Gazebo (6:26)
a2 - Gazebo (Tool) (4:25)
b1 - Gazelle (6:11)
b2 - Gazelle (Tool)

Fairmont is the semi-famous side project of producer Jake Fairley - his “soft side”. Fairmont is a nice guy and makes techno-pop love songs that make people smile or cry depending on how their day is going. He does a nice and relaxed live act that you can dance to. He sings of heartache and lonely nights while lovers gaze into each other’s eyes. However, if you prefer, it is also nice to just take a pill and give yourself a message. (in discogs.com)

Despite their short time of existence, the record label border community is well known by it's famous releases like nathan fake - the sky was pink or estrawelt - soopertrack... this new upcoming album is also a great one with a touch of melancolism like Fairmont likes that goes deep into your soul. Gazelle is a quiet deep track, nicely made very very soft! Gazebo is full of mixed feelings that brings you great emotions, it can take you high into the sky or bring you down towards the ground, surelly the better production of this 12"

Under the Alex

Driving my way back home listening some tracks of alex under debut cd, and other lp's released by him, I became aware that, at the moment, he is probably my favourite producer. Our neighbour from Spain has a reputation rising all over the world with his known style of techno house... Tracks like El Arado Adorado, Las Bicicletas son para El Verano or his remix off Oliver Hacke - Subject Carrier shows his unique excellence when making tripping & disturbing music. The hypno-psychedelic constructions with crazy & groovy basslines like in Abitah la Granjeritia, Balas de Jaja Maja or even the january released Cerebrote de Schizofrenia show's that he has knowledge of what the listeners in the dancefloors appreciate. An artist to pay attention where quality is continuously rising up! Don't miss his releases on trapez, they all worth it! This is not a album review it's only to ensure that Alex Under productions are crushing my mind with its powerfullness..

Heartthrob - Time For Ensor

12" -->> Minimal
Minus 031

a1 - Time for Ensor (4:33)
a2 - Glass Cat (7:27)
b1 - Golum (6:33)
b2 - Grounded (6:13)

Listen (& buy it) here..!

No moods for reviews so here it goes... crazy disturbed rythms, great & dark personality.
"Debut single from the elastic sounds of Brooklyn's HEARTTHROB One thing is certain with the wide-eared palette in the hand of Heartthrob, aka Jesse Siminski- melody and swing are in harmony. 'Time For Ensor' is a debut-single full of playful bass lines and pop motifs decorated by animated electronic symbolism. Heartthrob's sound contains the balance of respect for dance music's past while embracing focus, freedom and fun via today's soft/hardware possibilities and potential. A Michigan native living in New York, Siminski was exposed to the same Midwest techno underground of the 1990's that connects much of the Minus/Plus 8 roster now adventuring around the globe. Being exposed to underground parties and futuristic sounds in Madison, Minneapolis, Chicago and Detroit, his ear was inspired from an even younger age by the classic electronic records in his father's (also a performing and practicing musician) music collection and Jesse's adolescent noodlings with keyboards and drum machines. His altered moves as Vivianne Project for the Contexterrior and Underl_ne labels have followed suit into Siminski's beat. Having only performed live under a dozen times, his energetic and expressive shows have given audiences in the States a sneak peek to what Europe will be experiencing in the fall of 2005 (performances in Berlin, Amsterdam and Barcelona are set for this September and October). Dancing the line between sparse and complex, Heartthrob's subtle hooks on 'Golum' and off-world echoes in the title cut, 'Time For Ensor', are more in the moment than moody or grabbing nostalgic. (T)his fresh outlook is a preview to much more sonic art from Jesse Siminski in the future." (in

Frank Martiniq - Extrashark

12" --->> Techno, Minimal
Boxer 033

a1 - Extrashark (7:36)
b1 - Dumb de luxe (6:32)

sample here!

After hits like adriano, litlle fully crowds or late night toolz Frank Martiniq brings us a classy lp bombing it with a deep subtle Extrashark, a minimal dark envolving track that can be glimmed up in all the dancefloors with it's peacefull wavebass leading it to a special track; the b side is a more tech housy track perfect to tell the people to... "rise up!"I bet this one will be in the tracklists off all the great sets being made around the clubs cause of it's acid hypno breaks. A astonishing release by mr Frank surelly recommended

Sunsetpeople - orion \ salty dog

12"--» minimal-funky
get physical music 035

a - orion
b - salty dog

the 35th release by get physical music is the return of Sunsetpeople to the label after the track "mifune" (GPM016).
side A (orion) is the "club side"; with a very one-of-a-kind groovy beat that reminded me the first record of sunsetpeople by physical(GPM002); this is a track that builds itself with the help of effects, gains and breaks trough the exact time and in the exact moment.
side B (salty dog) is a more selective track that not everyone will enjoy..but those who will i´m sure that are going to let their bodys follow a subtle progressive effect that runs during the entire track. this "alternative" side starts with water falling..dogs barking..(andre kraml used elephants on "safari"remixed by kiki&the silversurfer(crosstown rebels 015) sunsetpeople used dogs..) and suddenly the beat comes out from nowhere and the subtile effect starts to show from the midle of the other elements in this track. in resume is a good record, very "physical" ,that stays in the gender sunsetpeople always showed.

Ricardo Villalobos - Ach so

12" -->> Minimal Tech House
Cadenza oo8

a1 - Ichso (11:58)
a2 - Duso (11:19)
b1 - Erso (12:48)
b2 - Sieso (13:44)

"Only Ricardo Villalobos terms a four-track fifty-minute mind-melt an EP. That last hypenation, though, is the key. No mere 12” is going to actually melt minds. Sear it, maybe. Opener “Ichso” comes close—placing a bassline and murky echo pattern underneath two competing flamenco guitar (?) lines. “Duso” takes the beat up for its length, and pushes the melody far below the surface, instead focusing on the infinite possibilities created by miniscule droplets of watery delay. “Erso” reminds of little else besides Autechre’s most recent excursions into complete abstraction while somehow maintaining an eye on the dance floor , while “Sieso” may be as close as he’s come to another “Dexter” since its release. Is there a more fascinatingly dense artist working in dance music today?" (in stylusmagazine.com)
I'm still not able to do ricardo's reviews... Lots of classic guitar, lots of hypnotic feelings, full lenth melodic tracks, progressive tunes, everything we are used to in his production!

dj T live@lux

last saturday dj T (get physical music) simply burned up -LUX- at lisbon!creating a fantastic atmosphere with a minimal-electro-funky ( just like that: hard to define..) set that let everyone expecting his next visit to our country!a nice warm-up provided by rui vargas was the perfect start to what revealed to be a great night!
Thomas Koch - aka dj T - beginned to select some tracks that let everyone in a great mood and slowly started to amuse everyone (including himself) with great beats ; breaks and noisy acid effects..T sayed goodbye 3 times that night..the first one the aplause and madness of the crowd on the dancefloor didn´t let him go and "made" him play for more time and when he sayed goodbye for the second time the story repeated and more tracks made everyone fly...the sun was high and the ray of lights were filling the club when T finally left the booth and received the aplause of everyone who was still there (and we were many!!!) in the memory stays the image of dj T staring to the great view that -LUX- location provides over rio tejo..and an almoust certain "i will come back" written on his face..very soon..we hope..

Alter Ego - Gate 23 / Daktari (remixes)

12" --> Minimal
klang 099

a1 - Gate 23 (Alter Ego Dub) (5:31)
b1 - Gate 23 (Isolee remix) (5:46)
b2 - Daktari (Matt John's Daktatrick 17 remix) (7:03)

Alter Ego are Roman Flügel & Jörn Elling Wuttke, two wicked producers that have done an amazing reproduction of Gate 23 a dark suble track that takes us to neurotic feelings, this is not a track to be listened in the clubs, i think you would prefer to hear it in a long trip in the car alone... The Isolee completes the first remix, it smoods down the pressure and brings up the tripy enjoyable feelings that you like to feel in a music! After works by Ricardo Villalobos, Robag Wruhme and others , The Daktari remix by Matt John is full of snares and crazy hit hats remindes you a lot marc houle, a dynamic minimal track perfect to complete this "not-for-the-jetclubs" 12 inch.

Misc - Hey Du!

12" --> Minimal Tech House
klang 098

a1 - Hey Du (5:07)
b1 - Dead Phones (6:10)

b2 - Why Dont you listen (5:03)

Listen a sample of the album here

After the release of their album - "like morning in your eyes" - on Sender Records misc is back with another great production this time on klang elektronik. Hey Du has a strong kick full of bassy underground, very powerfull with all the condiments required in a dancefloor track. Dead Phones leaves you to other fields, more green, more nice, with a deep groove great for relaxing after the first one! Why Dont you listen is the hypnotic track of the 12" inch showing that misc are in great shape.

Booka Shade - Mandarine EP

Format: 12"
Label:
Get Physical Music
Catalog: GPM029
Style: Minimal, Electro

Tracklisting:

a1 - Mandarine Girl (8:04)
b1 - Point Break (6:39)
b2 - Triple Identify (6:58)

This is one of those Ep's that I have for a long time - it was released on may - but don't payed the atention it deserves. When i listened it today it seemed different, it had a meaning, Mandarine Girl captured my senses... a great hypnotic melody and always a progressive construction, one of the tracks of the year (the beat makes you remember andre kraml - safari _ james holden remix). After listening to it i was afraid that the other two tracks weren't that good, but they really are... a bit of acid, a bit of electro and always brilliant productions!

‘Mandarine Girl’ was inspired by a special night they shared in 1993, at Sven Vath’s legendary techno club The Omen. There Walter encountered a smiling beauty who came out of the writhing crowds and put something in his mouth, a sweet segment of juicy mandarine, then with a look she danced away never to be seen again.

Style: Techno, Minimal

Tracklisting:

a1 - Leakwhorl Lops (5:32)
b1 - Shellwork Opals (6:19)

The first release of Anders on Defrag is heading straight to the dancefloors, a great tree track EP all produced with genious minimal patterns, great rhythms and amazing acid reverbs, old school style claiming to be the most apreciated release by A. Ilar following his last great releases on other labels. A great 12 inch to end this three track day!

Audio Werner - Just Dar It!

Label: Trapez

Catalog: Trapez Ltd 037
Style: Minimal, Tech house

Tracklisting:

a1 - Just Wanna Get Down (8:39)
b1 - Dar Papaya (8:54)

After the blast of his previous release "Zwrtshak Drive" here is "just dar it", the first of two releases on trapez, a great EP bringing to us some old flavours already forgotten, Dar Papaya is the track with the most vibe, a pumpy beat & fruity samples that turns the music very joyable . Just Wanna Get Down is a juicy celebration of the latin grooves, a track to rise up through the morning that remembers you the better days, the soul days! Huge release to listen carefully!

Ricardo Villalobos - For Disco Only 2

Format: 12"
Not On Label
Style: Tech house, Minimal

Tracklisting:

a1 - Morphunx (12:04)
b1 - Morxam (12:45)

"Anonymous gear from Villalobos here, finding the master of minimalism construct a pair of absolute killers that allegedly utilise the work of Philip Glass as a backbone. The spacious composition and odd samples sit uneasily amidst the low-end rumbles and tight percussive chugs – another flawless execution from a producer who refuses to rest on his laurels. Limited copies only" (review by boomkat.com)

a1 - Orbital Dance Machine (Original mix) (6:37)
b1 - Orbital Dance Machine (Tomas Andersson nervous disco remix) (5:30)
b2 - Orbital Dance Machine (Delon & Dalcan remix) (5:23)

Not being the kind of music that i normally listen, here it is "Orbital Dance Machine", a great electro release by trick & kubic two german guys that produced i highly rated tune very powerfull & ravy! with remixes of Tomas Andersson - a disturbing one, i don't know where his head was when he made this - and the great french artists Delon & Dalcan with a crazy electro rave mix that will blow your heads off, surelly the best track of the EP

10/18/05

Trentemøller - Sunstroke

Format: 12"
Label: Poker Flat Recordings
Catalog: Pfr 061

Style: Deep Minimal Tech House

Tracklisting:

A1 - Sunstroke (7:35)

B1 - Minimal Fox (6:41)

From the dannish Trentemoller, one of the most innovative producers of the year, this release on Poker Flat, his second on this label, is a massive one! Always keeping his psychedelic touch with his weird samples and reverbs this 12inch is more subliminal, more deep with great constructions that take you into a ride with the music that you wish it could last longer. Sunstroke & Minimal fox are brilliant constructions of feelings that keeps you touched to the music! This EP is not like previous releases that were going directly to the charts of all the great djs, but if you listen carefully it might be the best production that he's had till now! Tracks to play while you are warming up the room (?)... Trentemoller can do no wrong.

Slam feat Dot Allison - Kill The Pain (Marc Houle Remixes)

Format: 12"
Label: Soma Quality Recordings
Catalog: Soma 180
Style: Minimal, Techno Minimal

Tracklisting:

A1 - Kill The Pain (Marc Houle Dub) (5:47)
A2 - Kill The Pain (Marc Houle Vocal) (6:14)
B1 - Kill The Pain (Alex Smoke Dub) (6:16)
B2 - Kill The Pain (Instrumental) (4:37)

Following his line of production always marked by a great minimalism, Marc Houle gives “Kill The Pain” a twisted teched out treatment. Precise beats, noisy hithats, great synths do the work on both Houle’s Dub & Vocal treatments. Also with Alex Smoke leaving his mark on a quite good work, more tech-housy with distorted errors and a great pattern. Marc Houle Dub is the best track of a good 12inch to listen carefully!

10/13/05

This second release by Onur Özer resident of Indigo Music Hall in Istambul show us that Turkey too is online with minimal tech scene! "1996" has great patterns, a great tech house track able to lead us to a great night on the dancefloors. This Cologne artist has a minimal Detroit oldschool touch with lots of touchy noises well linned up with the amazing groove! Massive production by Audio werner who recently launched his 4th released on Trapez - "just dar it" - and i'm looking forward to hear it!

Label: Minus
Catalog: Minus 030

Tracklisting:

a1 - River Camping (9:29)
b1 - Falling Away (6:48)
b2 - Tanning Booths (6:56)

Minimal 4/4, no vocals, deep bass, weaked constructions... this is what you get when matthew dear becomes false! "River Camping" and "Falling Away" are surrounded by great synths, soft kicks, smooth pads and, small, hypnotic, erratic noises. Tanning Booths is the most pitched music of the three tracks linking Matthew Dear to his fields of minimal techno productions.
This Ep is a great release... and don't miss out "river camping", the weirdest and best track of the three.

10/6/05

Siskid is a very promising talent that, on his productions, show us influences of German minimal scene... A great first EP to roll on the the dancefloors. This producer promisses to be one of the best in the field! Skin flavour it's a great electro house track full of emotion and with obvious german influences! Butter knife is also a great track, a "gigolo" track... surelly that you will apreciate a lot! Very groovy and very powerfull! The remix of St Plomb goes down for a tech house genre but without loosing the feeling of the 12 inch!

Peter Grummich - Switch Off The Soap Opera

c1 - Switch Off The Soap Opera (5:24)
c2 - Joy da Silence (5:27)
d1 - Camp Tipsy (5:41)
d2 - Bread & Butter (7:08)

From one of my favourite producers who so brilliantly remixed Matthew Dear - It's Over now, this new lp it's all we can hope for! A great album from a skillfull guy that's been deejaying for almost twenty years.
"This 12-track album isn't meant to be played at a rave. It just isn't that type of album. Instead, it seems like Grummich wants his audience to strap on some headphones, throw this album in and just let the sounds fall into their ears - without any other message or direction than what they conceive in their own minds. He's the musical equivalent of one of those shrinks who hold up cards with funny ink blot images on them and asks how they make you feel. "
Techno minimal in subtle finger prints!

Released by the great Perlon label, entitled ''Joker Family Park One'' it marks the first part of an, hopefully, endless story . At the beginning, we meet miss ''Princess Unknown'', who rings the bell with enjoyable and fluid passion. After the best track of this 12"- ''The Rising Scope'' - a dark, acid, detroit style track full of paranoia, we finally reach ''Ferro Sanol Duodenal'', which marks the end of this smashing debut of Matt John.

Pantha Du Prince - Butterfly Girl Versions

Format: 12"
Label:
Dial
Catalog: Dial 23
Style: Techno, Minimal

Tracklisting:

A1 - Butterfly Girl (Sten Version) (6:35)
A2 - Butterfly Girl (Pantha Du Prince Lost The Beat) (9:04)
B1 - Butterfly Girl (Efdemin Persephone Version) (8:13)

"'Butterfly Girl' is one of the brightest shining jewels on Pantha du Prince's album Diamond Daze (Dial 2004). As remixers he invites his friends Efdemin and Sten aka Lawrence. Efdemin makes classical minimal grooving, with soulful sounds that make it deep on the floor. With Stens remix the 'Butterfly Girl' enters the Detroit-linked pumping zone related to his releases on Sender and Dial and on the latest Cocoon compilation as well. A bonus version of Pantha du Prince himself analyzes the basic ingredients of the original track and follows his genius sound research as Gluhen 4 (Dial CD in 2002)."
A powerfull version by Sten, for me, one of the best tracks of the year.

Martinez - Shadowboxing

Format: 12"
Label: Audiomatique Records
Catalog: Am 06
Style: Electro, Tech-house

Tracklisting:

A - Shadowboxing (6:40)

B1 - Shadowboxing (Trentemøller Remix) (6:13)
B2 - Sapphire Moon (6:05)

Having previously released tracks on Get Physical, Soma and Cartridge this very talented tech house producer from Copenhagen drops a three track release on the German label Audiomatique.
"Sapphire Moon" is a good example of his great production work with crisp drums and distorted bass patterns all wrapped up in a deep melody. "Shadowboxing" hits a little harder. It contains galvanised beats and an all round more abrasive groove. As for the Trentemøller Remix, a highly disturbing one with a nice electro beat and with such personality that when you hear it you can only say...Trentemøller did this! Great Great Groove
