Paul Kalkbrenner - Berlin Calling Vol.1

Berlin Calling is undoubtedly part of the film highlights of 2009. Hannes Stöhr’s fictitious drama based around the up-and-coming Berlin musician and Toxicomaniac Ickarus skillfully distances itself from ‘hip’ biopics and instead offers one hundred percent of authenticity and classic storytelling. What is surprising is the ease and the speed with which the dramatic – and even in parts tragic – story is presented. This balance act succeeds not only with images, but also with Paul Kalkbrenner’s congenial soundtrack accomplishes that feat effortlessly. Finally, after the “hymn” Sky and Sand, comes the second release as a 12” EP. Thematically, the title song is closely related to Sky and Sand, and the three tracks form an absolutely harmonious trilogy, not only perfectly transporting the film’s atmosphere, but actually generating it on their own. Even if you don’t know the images, you will soon get the impression of a subliminal, compulsively seething energy – and at the same time that of devouring emptiness, cycling faster and faster around aimlessness.

Minimaland Feedback: After almost one year, it’s a pleasure to get back to “Berlin Calling” steps again… the Cd really marked us and, in Vol.1 vinyl, we’ll all get the chance to buy some of the most gentle soft tracks that have been made during electronic musical history. We are trully appreciators of this producer’s work and we will always be waiting for his next move… for now lets way for Vol.2 because this is a perfect first!

Paul Kalkbrenner - Bingo Bongo

Paul Kalkbrenner is one of the names that, here in minimal land, we like the most. His genuine music fits perfectly to our world of magical potions! This two musics makes me realize that this guy is still hanging on to what he does the best! In the A side we have the "Bingo Bongo" track. A deep quiet music filled by a quite sad melody... this music is getting better and better every time i listen it... it's one of the quality's of Mr. Kalkbrenner. In the B side you have one of those old school tracks he normally produces. A music that can be compared to Altes Kamuffel, also done by him. A pumpy beat and a groovy style in a genuine German style, perfect to rise up the levels in the dancefloor... what an explosion!! A side to the mind, B side to the Body, released by Bpitch Control.

Paul Kalkbrenner - Altes Kamuffel

Despite being released in may, today I became aware that I have not posted here this great one. It is surely one of the Eps of the year, so it couldn't be forgotten. After anti-pop festival in August i realized that Paul Kalkbrenner was a one kind producer, with a genuine and unique work, I think the most of his work is brilliant and should be known by all of you. So, sorry for not posting this before... If you don't know this yet i can tell you it's an explosion of synth and bass lines. "Altes Kamuffel" is a great union between melodic exposure and pumping beat, this one is always present in his live performances. "Ick Muss Aus Dit Milieu Heraus" is another great one, uprising feelings, perfect to throw us all apart in the dance floors with it's great percussion, kicking beat and amazing groove ! Please listen this one, a two Ep burner released by Bpitch Control. I hope you realize why i like this guy so much. Enjoy!

If you have any requests for something u'd like to hear, just ask. Paul Kalkbrenner - Keule

Release nr 131 on Bpitch control, mr Old School, Paul Kalkbrenner is back with a great release! I'm usually not into his kind of work but i appreciated a lot this album! His music is more genuine and dynamic always keeping that disturbing progression of sounds, but this time, quieter... I think thats the reason i liked this one, the touch of kalkbrenner is not so subtle as in other albuns but the dancefloor mania is more present... Keule is the perfect example of it, nice kick, 3 or 4 noisy effects... breaks, progressions and you have a smashing music to the party people. Atzepeng, the first music of the B side has a deeper construction always marked by the geniality of Mr Paul Kalkbrenner, pure relaxing music, perfect 10 for the chilling moments. Freund Blase is, to me, the nicest track of this ep closing the gap between Apzepeng and Keule. Amazing Freund Blase perfect in all the ways it can be.
Old school telling how to do it..

Listen to:
a1 - Keule
b1 - Atzepeng
b2 - Freund Blase

Edited in2007: This album still brings me the same joy and kind of feeling... Atzepeng is beautiful, keule is a bomb and finally Freund Blase envolves me in such an unbelievable way...
